Transient Fixation

Transient Fixation is an algorithm based, audio manipulated 2/3D composition generator, created to work in tandem with an ambient audio piece, composed Out of Joint Records. After being asked to participate in an exhibition at a gallery in my hometown, I decided I wanted to create a semi interactive audio visual experience.

Transient fixation is loaded up with a database of around 600 graphical assets of my creation, ranging from crops of personal photographs and scans of magazines, to custom created vector shapes, fonts and patterns. The programme then listens to the peak and valley frequencies of the music it plays alongside, and at regular intervals creates a composition based in part on the audio input, from a random selection of the assets in the database. The idea of this was that during the exhibition, no two viewers experiences of the piece would ever be the same, as each composition is transient in nature, has a lifespan of approximately 30 seconds and is then overwritten by the next composition. Below are some saved outputs, used in the trailer for this exhibition.
